In the year 2000, Hévíz town’s rainwater drainage system plan was completed on the Local Government of Hévíz’s authority in order to reduce the factors endangering water quality and for the protection of damages against rainwater. The implementation of the plans was carried out continuously by the settlement. By now, the stormwater drainage has been built up almost in the entire inner area.
Within the framework of the New Széchenyi Plan, the Local Government of Hévíz town submitted its project under the code number NYDOP-4.1.1/B-11-2011-0015. The application was successful, and due to the project, the development was the last step of the rainwater drainage system in the northwestern part of the town. It serves the deployment of the still missing elements between the reception area (Páhoki brook) and the streets of the settlement. The primary objective of the project is prevention: to establish the infrastructure needed to protect the area covered by the project against rainwater damages, to solve the problem of stormwater drainage, to build up a safe rainwater drainage system, as well as to protect the thermal lake of Hévíz, the property of residents and the local government. The project area is located in the catchment area and protection zone of Lake Hévíz. Without a safe solution to the stormwater drainage, the area is a source of danger for the lake. Further goals: to establish an organized townscape, which has a key part due to the touristic role of the town, to ensure the infrastructure suitable for receiving tourists.
The effects of the project: the project creates safe rainwater drainage in the affected area. It ensures the residents and the local government that their valuables will be protected against damages caused by stormwater even in case of precipitation conditions becoming stronger and stronger (the amount and intensity of the rainfall will increase) in the long run.
Protecting the thermal lake of Hévíz. The protection of the lake is the basic interest of the settlement. The establishment of a safe rainwater drainage will eliminate the area-related source of danger for the lake. It is important to create an organised townscape and provide the infrastucture suitable for receiving tourists in the affected area. The town preserves its natural and ecological values for the present and future generations by maintaining and improving the environmental status.
The subject of the project is to develop the stormwater drainage system that has insufficient capacity and does not ensure safe, damage-free water disposal at present in the northwestern part of the town within municipality boundaries.
Within the framework of the project, the affected areas, where flooding of rainwater needs to be stopped, are the following: Büki Street within municipality boundaries, the area bounded by Madách - Kisfaludy - Akác and Budai Nagy Antal streets.
The size of the affected area is 31.37 ha. The number of homes affected: 248, the number of residents affected: 1,005 people.
The total cost of the investment was HUF 101,834,315. During the project a rainwater channel with a total length of 1,216 m was built with the necessary structures. In the tender, the total eligible cost of the project was HUF 96,207,927, out of which the grant was HUF 86,587,134. The project was implemented between 23rd July 2012 and 30th November 2012.
